The Real Problem

It's Not "Comfort" That's Failing You. It's The Fabric.

There's a reason your underwear feels wrong, holds heat, and traps sweat — and it has nothing to do with the brand. It's what the brand is made of.

Comparison: organic cotton vs synthetic underwear

Over 60% of Underwear Is Now Plastic

Modern men's underwear is overwhelmingly polyester, nylon, and spandex — petroleum-derived synthetic fibers, chemically identical to the plastic in a water bottle.

That plastic doesn't sit inert against your skin. It traps heat. It sheds microplastics. It off-gases the plasticizers used to make it stretchy — phthalates, BPA, antimony — and your skin absorbs them, every day, for years.

A 1992 clinical trial that used polyester underwear as a male contraceptive produced 100% temporary infertility in all 14 men in the trial. That paper has been freely available for over three decades.

Why Even "100% Cotton" Isn't Safe.

Conventional cotton is one of the most pesticide-intensive crops on the planet

Cotton Is The Most Pesticide-Intensive Crop On Earth

An estimated 440 million tons of pesticides are applied to cotton crops globally every year. That chemical load is embedded into the fiber before the garment is ever stitched together — and the conventional finishing process adds more.

Dr. Shanna Swan's 2006 study of men across four U.S. states found that men in heavy-pesticide regions had significantly lower semen quality than men in cleaner regions. The relationship was direct, dose-dependent, and reproducible.

"Cotton" is a fiber. "Certified organic cotton" is a guarantee. The difference shows up in your underwear drawer, and it shows up in your body.

The Mechanism

GOTS + OEKO-TEX. Both. Not One.

"Organic cotton" is a marketing word without verification. Gotchies carries the only two certifications that mean something — and we make the certificate numbers public so you can verify them yourself.

What GOTS Verifies

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certifies that the cotton was grown organically — no synthetic pesticides, no GMOs, no chemical fertilizers in the soil. Certified through CERES.

What OEKO-TEX Verifies

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certifies that the finished garment — including dyes, threads, and the waistband — contains no harmful chemicals. Our certificate number is 05.T.4389, independently verifiable at oeko-tex.com/en/label-check.

Most "organic" underwear brands carry one of these. Some carry neither. We carry both, and we publish the receipts.

What To Expect When You Switch

A Cleaner Drawer In Three Stages.

Most men report the difference within the first week. Here's what to expect — and when.

Day 1

Immediately Different

The first time you put on a pair of Gotchies, you'll notice the waistband. It's wrapped in the same organic cotton as the rest of the garment — no plastic edge, no scratchy logo strip. The fabric is softer than what you're used to. It breathes.

Week 1

Heat & Sweat Shift

Synthetic underwear traps heat and holds moisture against the skin. Organic cotton wicks it away. Within a week of switching, most men report a noticeable difference in how their underwear feels after a workout, in summer, or after a long flight.

Month 1+

The Drawer Replaces Itself

By the end of the first month, the old pairs feel wrong. The plastic-coated waistband feels cheap. The heat-trapping fabric feels stuffy. Most customers come back to size up an order or replace their full drawer. The Weekday Set is the easiest way to start.

Built By

A Small American Team. The Two Gold-Standard Certifications. No Shortcuts.

Gotchies was founded in June 2024 by a group of friends — athletes, scientists, engineers — who'd spent years optimizing sleep, training, and diet, then realized they'd overlooked the fabric sitting against their skin 24 hours a day.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Honest Answers.

Is "GOTS" and "OEKO-TEX" really verifiable, or marketing?

Verifiable. Our OEKO-TEX certificate number is 05.T.4389 — enter it at oeko-tex.com/en/label-check and you'll see our certificate in their public registry. Our GOTS certification is administered through CERES, the global GOTS certifying body, and the records are public.

Most underwear brands that claim "organic" carry zero of these certifications. We carry both.

How long does it take to feel a difference?

Day one for fit and waistband. Within the first week for the temperature and sweat difference — synthetic underwear traps both, organic cotton doesn't. Within a month, most men can't go back. The synthetic stuff suddenly feels cheap, hot, and wrong.

Will these hold up to athletics?

Yes. Elite marathoners, HYROX competitors, active-duty military, and Navy fighter pilots wear Gotchies daily. Our boxer briefs are 95% GOTS-certified organic cotton + 5% BPA-free elastane — enough structure for high-output training, none of the chemicals.

The classic boxer cut is 100% organic cotton for men who want zero elastane.

What sizes do you carry, and how should I size?

S (28–30" waist), M (32–34"), L (36–38"), XL (40–42"), XXL (44–46"). If you're between sizes, we recommend going up — cotton fits true to size but breathes better with a hair of room.

What's the return policy?

Most orders are covered by our 100-day return window — try on one pair to check fit, and return the unworn pairs for a refund. There's a $5 handling fee, and U.S. outbound shipping is non-refundable.

Please note: some large bundles (including the Closet Clean Out) are final sale and not eligible for returns or exchanges. The Weekday Set, all single-pair orders, and most smaller bundles are fully eligible. Check the full refund policy for the current eligibility list before ordering.

Returns are processed through getgotchies.loopreturns.com. International orders are final sale.

Why is this $30 a pair? Isn't that expensive for underwear?

The price difference comes from the cotton itself (GOTS-certified organic cotton costs more than conventional cotton), the dye and finishing process (OEKO-TEX-compliant treatments cost more than conventional), and the fabric-wrapped waistband (every other brand uses a printed plastic strip, which is cheaper).

The Weekday Set drops the per-pair price to $25 — and qualifies for our 100-day return policy so there's no risk.

Where do you ship to?

United States: free shipping on orders over $100. International: we ship globally, but all international sales are final (no returns or exchanges due to cross-border logistics).
